Big Tote with Cotton Cord Handles

Size: about 33.5cm (l) 48cm (w)

This large size tote is perfect for an activity-oriented outing. The fabric from the KESHIKI’s asa no yama (morning mountain) series is filled with illustrations and the KESHIKI was created with the concept “A fabric that decorates everyday living like a landscape painting.” What is nice about this fabric is that with large patterns, you can enjoy a different look of the design depending on how you cut it.

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Taking advantage of the striking large pattern, I came up with a large size bag with a simple shape.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
In keeping with the KESHIKI’s natural image, a cotton cord is used for the handle. I really like the soft feel, making it a perfect fit for a spring outing.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
While it is easy to make this bag with simple straight stitches, the area for the cord becomes thick with multiple layers, creating different thicknesses. When sewing, please do it carefully and slowly, especially the corners.

KF: How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
It has ample room to carry a change of clothes or towel. I am sure it will become useful for the upcoming season. It will look so nice with a natural style of clothing.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Fuhaku Big T-Shirt

Size: Back length 65.5cm Sleeve length from the center of the neck 70cm

“Bringing the warmth of knit more to everyday life.” With this concept, a graphic and artistic print line, Tricotemule series from the TORICOTÉII is created. “It is not considered a knit fabric, but rather a textile (Fuhaku).” Representing this thinking, the Fuhaku big T-shirt was designed, with a consideration to the materials. This T-shirt makes the best use of a beautiful form generated with this material. It is definitely going to be your best piece of clothing, allowing you to be stylish while maintaining a casual look.

We interviewed Anriko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The geometric designs in beautiful color tones come in the perfect size for a grown-up piece of clothing. Taking advantage of the characteristics of the double gauze, I came up with a long-sleeve Fuhaku T-shirt for a layered look that can be enjoyed from early spring to cool days right before summer.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The double gauze fabric is not really suitable for sewing big size pieces. Even with many pieces of cut parts, I thought of making the process easy so that even hard to sew yet visible areas can be accomplished easily with fewer steps.

KF: What are some tips for making this T-shirt?
While it is a big T-shirt, the armhole is not that wide. Knowing the character of this fabric, I recommend washing the fabric before cutting.

KF: How should we incorporate this T-shirt into one’s styling?
Though the current fashion trend is oversized clothing, it looks sloppy when a grown up wears it without proper styling. In order to avoid that, the sleeves are made to look slim, rather than being bulky. Knowing some people may be wearing this while doing their house chores, the sleeve is easy to roll up. I would love you to enjoy this shirt on relaxing days off or as everyday wear! It looks great not only with a pair of pants, but also cute with a skirt!

We interviewed Anriko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
This 100% cotton fabric is very soft and gentle to your skin. It works well as a blouse or for a cute Japanese style kid’s summertime casual wear. The possibilities are endless.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The stripe design in gradation is striking. While the base shape of this flair skirt is rather basic, depending on how you look at it, it creates a different impression as the stripes generate movement with different positions of the transitions and directions of the weave.

KF: What are some tips for making this skirt?
When piecing together the front skirts that are cut in a bias, please be careful not to over-stretch the fabric. When sewing the front and back skirts together, pay attention to the grain of the back skirt to avoid stretching.

KF: How should we incorporate this skirt into one’s styling?
The calm indigo color goes well with anything. Why not coordinate it with a top piece in a spring color for a refreshing look?

KF: Thank you very much, Anriko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
