A-Line Reversible Dress – Sewing Instruction

Size: Height 90cm size Length 47cm Body width 31cm

Being able to enjoy it in two ways, this reversible one piece dress for kids is made of two cotton linen sheeting fabrics from the PIKKU SAARI series – Tunturi – the Hills of the Lapland for side A and Taika – Magic for side B. As an accent, you can choose to add pockets in various styles, place them on both sides or use the same fabric as the dress.

We interviewed Naomi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
It is a beautiful fabric that is filled with a Scandinavian feel. To make great use of the impactful pattern and colors, I designed a reversible dress with a simple style that allows you to enjoy the print design. The soft material is easy to sew, yet with relative tension, it constructs the silhouette nicely.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
was particular about the A-line tent silhouette as I wanted to make this dress fit for kids around two years old who have a cute body shape with a little tummy.
The kids around this age starts to show an interest in pockets, so a fluffy round pocket is added as an accent.
In the example, I added pockets only on side A and it is made with opposite design fabric. Depending on your preference, you may arrange the design using the same fabric as the dress body.

KF: What are some tips for making this dress?
For this dress, I used a sewing method called “turn back.” You may find it a little difficult when piecing together the hem. Please make sure to refer to the instruction photos when sewing.
With this method, you don’t need to finish the seam. You can even make this dress with hand sewing only.

KF: How should we incorporate this dress into one’s styling?
With a wide arm hole, it is perfect for a layered look. It will look cute with a T-shirt and leggings/bloomers in the summer, or a turtleneck and tights for the fall/winter season.

Big Tote with Ample Gusset – Sewing Instructions

This oversized tote bag with a cute relaxed look creates a lovely triangular silhouette when the opening is closed by tightening the cords. The cords, when tied, allow your contents to be concealed, and makes this bag practical. What is also nice is that you can carry it over the shoulder with its long handles. The fabric, fortune from the tayutou series, features a design inspired by Omikuji (a Japanese fortune paper). The design also looks like stone pavement or even an egg shell…. This cotton linen fabric is perfect for bag making.

The lemon color cords attached on the side can be enjoyed in three ways – let it be loose, tie it inside or tie it outside.

This is cotton linen canvas series
with brilliantly echino-like colors and design combinations.

Like a scenery from somewhere,
rolling and tumbling round stones are designed for the stone.
It turned out to be an interesting design that tempts you to use it somewhat boldly

This stone design looks a little like polka dots or flowers.
Distinctive contrast is suited for a simple one-piece dress.

the usual tulip bag becomes dramatic with an impact.

Tiered Skirt with plenty of gathering – Sewing Instructions

Size: Length87.5cm

This time we are introducing how to make this summer’s trend, a tiered skirt.　As the word tiered represents, this skirt is designed with horizontally layered fabric transitions. The beautiful cotton lawn 60 fabric haze is from the yui series and comes with selvage on both ends. Depending on where you cut the fabric, you can appreciate different expression of this beautiful fabric where the sky and trees are blended into a scenery in a gradation of colors.

A tiered skirt will allow you to enjoy a stylish look with a simple white t-shirt, or you can create a mature set up by combining it with muted colors. Why not add a chic hand-made tiered skirt to your summer wardrobe? Comfortable to your skin, the cotton lawn is airy and cool, and better yet dries fast. It is a very practical skirt for the summer season!

We interviewed Anriko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The print fabric with selvage on both sides gives you the freedom to use the fabric fully. So I took advantage of it by making it into a full 3m circular tiered skirt.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
To utilize the darker tones on the ends, I undid the gradation effect somewhat and applied a border design. The darker tones are placed right around the waist. In addition to the petticoat, these darker colors allow you to wear the skirt without worrying about the underwear or inner wear from showing through.

KF: What are some tips for making this skirt?
The fun of using this fabric is that it creates a completely different look depending on which parts of the fabric you use. As for the shape, remember to use matchmarks for a simpler sewing of long gatherings.

KF: How should we incorporate this skirt into one’s styling?
Even with a cutesy looking tiered skirt, you could create a cool and trendy look of this season by combining it with items like a T-shirt, sports sandals and flip flops. Cotton lawn’s smooth texture will let you spend your summer refreshed and comfortable.
