We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I thought a large print with distinct colors would be perfect for interior makeover items. It can go well with both western and Japanese style rooms.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The size is a common 45cm pillow and the zipper is hidden so that it would not directly rub against your skin.

KF: What are some tips for making this pillow?
To apply the zipper cleanly, baste it first.

KF: How should we use this pillow in everyday situations?
Why not refresh the pillow cases for the New Year as throw pillows provide wonderful ways for a quick room makeover.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Cut a piece of thin artificial leather (4 x 65cm). Apply gathering and baste it to the solid color fabric.

With the front sides facing each other, sew together the patterned fabric and solid color fabric. Apply zigzag stitches on the seam and press it down to the patterned fabric side.

Apply zigzag stitches on the side where a zipper is attached. Stitch for 4cm (including seam) both from the top and bottom to sew together. Fold back the seam (1.5cm) to the back side.

Apply the zipper and baste it. Apply stitches from the front side.

With the front sides facing each other, fold in half. Keeping the zipper open, sew together the three sides.

Apply zigzag stitches on the seam. Turn the case inside out. Align the shape to finish.
