Drawstring Style Bag – Free Sewing Tutorial
Known as a “Dorosuto Bag” in Japan, drawstring closure bags are popular as stylish accessories with their cute, cinched-handle shape. The fabric used for this bag is a new pattern from the HAyU fabric series with inspiration from wire art creation by Manabu Ogawa. The [cat trio] design, featuring three adorable cats lined up, is dotted with various HAyU wire art motifs. Made from cotton-linen canvas, it is easy to sew and perfect for bag making.

Instructions

Cut the fabric to the specified dimensions.

With the front sides facing each other, place the two outer fabric pieces and sew them. Press the seam open. Make the lining fabric piece the same way.

With the front sides facing each other, fold the outer fabric piece in half and sew both side edges. Sew the lining fabric piece the same way.

Turn the outer bag inside out, press the seam open, and fold the opening edge 1cm to the lining side. Leave the lining bag as is, press the seam open, and fold the opening edge 1cm to the lining side.

Fold the short edges of the opening fabric 1cm wide on both sides into a triple fold and sew. Fold in half and baste.

With the front sides facing outside, place the outer and lining bags together. Align the center of the opening fabric with the center of the side seam and sew all the way around.

Fold the short edge of the handle fabric 1cm toward the lining side, then fold it in half again and sew.

Insert the handle through the top opening edge.

Tie the handle. Use your preferred knot style.
