Crossbody Bag– Free Sewing Tutorial
This is a crossbody bag featuring a small front pocket with a flex frame, similar to a kangaroo’s pouch. The fabric used for this project is [Forest] from the Terra collection, designed by Amélie Mancini, a New York-based painter, printmaker, and textile designer. The fabric features a vintage-inspired color palette and depicts life in a forest inhabited by various animals. Made of cotton-linen canvas, it is easy to sew and ideal for making bags and pouches.

How to Make a Crossbody Bag
-

Cut out the pieces and press them to set the shape.
-

Fold the opening fabric into a triple fold and baste it in place, then fold it in half and baste it.
-

Check the pattern, with the front sides facing each other, sew with a 1 cm seam allowance, then fold the seam allowance toward the wider side and sew it down.
-

Sew the front and lining tucks.
-

Sew both sides with a 1 cm seam allowance. Leave an opening in the lining fabric for turning.
-

For the lining fabric, sew the gusset straight and trim it. For the outer fabric, baste the gusset with embroidery thread, gather it, and wrap the thread around it. Fold the gusset upward and sew it in place.
-

Sew the center of the handle, then gather the ends with embroidery thread to shrink it to 20 cm.
-

Baste the top flap and the handle in place.
-

With the front sides facing each other, align the pieces, sew with a 1 cm seam allowance, and close the turning opening.
-

Sew the small outer bag to the large outer bag.
-

Thread the spring through to finish. Attach the shoulder strap of your choice.
