This big tote bag is convenient and can also be used as a diaper bag. To make it look more compact when not carrying many items, it is designed with leather tapes on both ends that can be connected with swivel hooks. The featured fabric is the popular Anpan (sweet bean paste bun) pattern from the “MUDDY WORKS” series. The outer fabric is a sturdy #9.5 canvas. A solid color of a lightweight canvas from the same series is incorporated for the lining.

Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The large Anpan (sweet bean paste bun) makes quite an impact! The random arrangement of the pattern creates a cute look no matter where you cut it, however this time I decided to make a large tote bag to feature many Anpan motifs.
KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
While large bags are convenient, sometimes you may want to make them look a little more compact.
To make it easy to alter the shape and size, the design allows for leather tapes on both ends to be connected with swivel hooks.
KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
I think the Anpan pattern is perfect for picnics. With ample room to hold, it is also perfect as a diaper bag.

Instructions
1.
Cut the materials. Put markings for attachment position of the handle and artificial leather tape.
2.
Baste the handle and artificial leather tape on the outer fabric.
3.
On the other piece, baste only the handle.
4.
With the front sides facing each other, layer the lining fabric over the outer fabric and sew together. Press down the seam toward the outer fabric side.
5.
Apply stitches on the front. Repeat the process on the other side.
6.
With the front sides facing each other, sew together the bottom and sides. Fold the gusset and sew.
(Repeat the same process on the outer and lining fabrics at four locations altogether.) ※Leave an opening for turning on the lining fabric.
7.
Turn it inside out and align the shape.
8.
Close the opening for turning.
9.
Insert the artificial leather tape through D ring and fold in half. Secure it with the rivet at two locations.
10.
To finish, on the other piece, insert the swivel hooks and secure in the same manner as the previous step.
