New to sewing? Aimed at beginners, this original segment teaches you the joy of creating handmade pieces while learning the basics of sewing! In this second issue, you will learn how to make a drawstring bag without lining. The fabric used for this bag is the “Chibi Puri” series of 100% cotton sheeting. With small patterns all over the fabric, there is no need to worry about the fabric’s orientation. It is a perfect fabric for beginners making a drawstring bag for the first time.

Instructions

1.

Draw the pattern (20cm (w) x 25cm (l) finished measurement + seam allowance) and cut the fabric.
※ Seam allowance – top opening side 7cm including cord opening. Other areas 1cm

2.

Apply zigzag stitches all around the fabric.

3.

Fold the opening side and cord opening and iron to crease. (Fold 1cm first, then fold to the line at the end of the opening.) Unfold, and with the front sides facing each other, sew from one end of the opening to the other end of the opening.

4.

Press the seam open and apply stitches from the front. Refold along the crease line. Apply stitches on the front at 2.5cm from the top edge.

5.

Prepare two strands of cord (54cm each). (Bag width 20cm x 2)+14cm=54cm

6.

Insert the cord through the opening using a bodkin.

7.

Finished!
