Dress with Frills

size:100

This kid’s dress is lovely with frills at the armholes and comes with convenient side pockets as a cute accent. The featured fabric is a cotton 100% double gauze from the SWEET ANIMAL series. The pattern is laid out in one direction, so when cutting the fabric, make sure to check the direction.

Camisole Dress

Size: Length (excludes shoulder strap) 90cm Body width 96cm

Accented with nice bows at the shoulder and side, this camisole dress which comes in a soft texture double gauze has a surprising element. While it is made with a simple pattern and straight cutting, when worn and tied with bows, a lovely drape creates a beautiful and dynamic silhouette. A plaid pattern fabric from the SEWING TRIP series features a bold check, yet with a subdued yellow and blue color combination, it produces a mature look.

We interviewed Aiko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF):What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Though a plaid design tends to be associated with children’s styles, the combination of subdued yellow and refreshing blue creates a mature feel. The random placement of the pattern adds a stylish element.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
I wanted to take advantage of the check’s random feel, so the entire fabric is utilized without having transitions or darts. The tied bows work as an accent. In order to emphasize the soft texture of gauze fabric, the stitch lines along the V neckline are concealed.

KF: What are some tips for making this dress?
The gauze fabric stretches when pulled, so align the fabric by gently pressing it from the top. You may find it difficult to sew the V neckline and armpit. To avoid the fabric crinkling, I recommend a test run using a different fabric first before trying it with gauze.

KF: How should we incorporate this dress into one’s styling?
A layered look with a T-shirt is one way to enjoy a camisole dress. Match it with a pair of jeans, wide-cut pants or a skirt for a variety of layered style.

Zipper Top Sub Bag

Size: about 33cm (l) 30cm (bottom length) 20cm (bottom width)

When going out, a small bag with a zipper top becomes handy for simply storing a wallet and smart phone or for carrying something extra when needed. Using echino’s light and soft cotton linen seething embroidery fabric, this bag can be easily folded and taken as a sub bag. Also featured for the handle is echino’s solid gray with stitches applied in the same color of the embroidery.

We interviewed Yoko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The design looks as if the birds are carrying the flags. It has an airy feel, making it also suitable for clothing. In order to maintain the texture of the fabric, a medium weight interfacing is applied.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
It is a lightweight bag with a flat knit zipper, so it can be folded as a sub bag. The wider handle is intentional. Even with many items in the bag, the wide handle will not hurt your hands.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
Please be mindful of the directions of the patterns and cut the fabric in the same direction. When turning over the end fabrics on the zipper through the opening, use a stiletto for a clean finish. The length of the handle can be adjusted to your taste. If you want to carry this like a shoulder bag, please cut longer pieces for the handle.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
This bag will be useful as a secondary accompaniment, rather than as a statement piece. With a zipper top, contents can stay inside even when placed on the luggage shelf in a train. I highly recommend making this bag. You will definitely find it handy.
