This bag makes use of the large, impactful animal pattern as it appears. With a 40cm zipper, it creates a large opening and plenty of room for your belongings. The featured fabric is [LIVE] from echino’s “Framework 2022” series. The large pattern has a lot of movement, so you can enjoy different looks depending on where you cut it. Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The large, impactful pattern is stylish. I thought it would also look very attractive for interior decoration, like a wall hanging. This time, I made use of the large pattern to create a zippered oblong bag.
KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
This large bag with a 40cm zipper can hold a lot of items. Rounded corners and shorter handles give it a trunk-like shape. It looks cute even if you leave it out when not in use.
KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
The size of the design motif is very large, so after deciding on the pattern for the bag panel, please make sure that there is enough fabric left for the gusset and handle before cutting. If you are worried about the curved applications, it is safe to baste it first.
KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
It works well with a simple, casual outfit. It also comes in handy as a garment bag for travel and workout at the gym.

Instructions
1.
Cut the fabrics.
2.
Prepare handles (2 pieces) and tabs (2 pieces).
3.
Attach the end fabric on the zipper. Match the piece to the zipper and cut off excess fabric.
4.
Make the outer bag. With the front sides facing each other, attach the zipper to the gusset for the opening side. Secure the seam by ironing the piece from the front.
5.
Piece together the bottom gussets, making it into one long piece.
6.
Baste the handle and tab.
7.
With the front sides facing each other, sew together the opening side gusset and bottom gusset.
8.
With the front sides facing each other, sew together the panel and gusset. The outer bag is now complete.
9.
Make the lining bag by following the same process for the outer bag.
※Do not attach the zipper. Fold the zipper attachment seam to the lining side.
10.
With the front sides facing outside, sew together the outer and lining bags by hand.
11.
Using blind stitches for zipper attachment will result in a clean finish.
