It is stylish yet very easy to make! It is a popular apron with a single shoulder strap. The stone design fabric is from the FABRIC CARAVAN series by Momoko Kinoshita, who is a designer for clothing and bag brand, YURTAO. A different design of the fabric’s edge is used as an accent.

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Ethnic style design with bright colors liven you up. It is also an easy-to-sew fabric with an appropriate thickness. I took this opportunity to create a single shoulder strap apron, something that I have always wanted to make.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The design uses almost every inch of the 1m size fabric. Even the design on the edge is utilized to create a cute look on the chest and for the tip of the straps.

KF: What are some tips for making this apron?
Use the iron to firmly crease the fabric and utilize basting glue. This way the stitches on top of the double folded fabric will come out cleanly. If you are serging the fabric, you only need to fold it once.

KF:How should we use this apron in everyday situations?
Use of the D ring allows you to adjust the length of the shoulder strap. This apron is easy-to-use as you can slip it over your head.

KF:Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

1.

Cut the fabrics.

2.

Make the shoulder strap and waist strap (two pieces each). With the short ends inward, gate fold the fabric. Apply stitches at 2mm from the edge.

3.

Make the tab. Gate fold the fabric. Apply stitches at 2mm from the edge.

4.

Put the tab through two D rings and make a loop.
To avoid making it thick, don’t layer it. Baste roughly.

5.

Fold the edge of the main apron fabric in three and apply stitches.

6.

Fold all four sides of the pocket in three, and apply stitches at the opening side.

7.

Place the pocket on the main apron fabric. Attach it by sewing three sides of the pocket (except the opening side).

8.

Attach the shoulder strap (to start, with the front sides facing each other).

9.

Then, as if you are turning it over, sew it again.

10.

Attach the waist strap.

11.

Attach the tab with D rings.

12.

Adjust the length of the waist strap.
