This square bag in a yacht motif fabric from the border of view is perfect for summer. The combination of 80% cotton and 20% linen canvas sturdy material is suitable for bag making. Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
A summer-like design and colors are so charming and invigorating! Its solid texture is easy to handle, making it perfect for a bag.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
To make use of the fabric’s solid texture, I chose a square shape. The bottom portion’s #8 canvas and inner side’s thick oxford fabric add extra sturdiness! An ample gusset and wide handles that are attached parallel to the front and back surfaces add uniqueness. With a wide opening, it is easy to take things in and out. The side tab for closure will give you peace of mind.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
It only requires straight stitching, so I am sure you can make it easily. If you want to make sure that the outer bag and inner bag are sewn at the top in alignment, I recommend basting to be part of the process.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
Carry it with an extra-summery outfit, like a pure white T-shirt and a pair of jeans. It will be perfect. While I matched a blue-gray canvas for the bottom of this example, a vivid red or refreshing white will also make it stylish. A different way of enjoying this bag is to add a long strap through a looped tab.

Instructions

1.

Prepare the materials.

2.

With the front sides facing each other, put together outer fabric a and outer fabric b and sew the 36cm-side. Repeat the process on the other piece. Press the seam open.

3.

With the front sides facing each other, fold the pocket fabric in half. Sew all three sides, leaving an opening for turning. Cut off corner seams. Turn it inside out and apply stitches on the pocket opening.

4.

Attach the pocket on the front side of the lining fabric.

With the front sides facing each other, fold the outer fabric in half and sew both sides.

6.

Fold the bottom corner in a triangle and sew the gusset. Cut off excess seam and apply zigzag stitches.
Make sure to create all four gussets – two for outer bag and two for lining bag.

7.

Fold the handle in four and sew both sides. Make two pieces.

8.

After folding the top of the tab for 1cm, fold the piece in four and sew all the way around.

9.

Fold the top opening of both outer bag and lining bag to the reverse side. Iron the fold. Turn only the outer bag inside out and insert the lining bag. Place the handle and tab at 2cm from the edge and sew all the way around at the top opening.

10.

Attach the magnetic clasp on the tab. 凹side should be placed on the top tab. Place 凸side on the bottom tab.
