This is a pouch with a long zipper as a handle. The edge and decorative fabrics for the zipper are accented with the same light blue color of the lining fabric. The fabric used for this pouch is from the “Sashiko Moyou” series. The design features small motifs from the sashiko embroidery, a popular old-fashioned Japanese needle craft. The moderately thick cotton linen canvas is suitable for making bags and pouches.

We interviewed Mioko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The pattern itself is very lovely, yet at the same time, it looks mature from a distance. For that reason, I thought it would work for a grown-up accessory! With that in mind, I came up with piece that has a sharper shape to reflect the mature character.
KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
To create this shape nicely, the featured zipper is longer than the width of the pouch. The extra length of the zipper is conveniently turned into a handle. The addition of the light blue fabric to the zipper end and loop acts as another accent.
KF: What are some tips for making this case?
When applying the top stitches, fold the corners of the outer and lining fabrics tightly together. If you miss the lining fabric, it will look slightly sloppy when the bag is opened. So please be careful when stitching.
KF: How should we use this case in everyday situations?
It will make a stylish statement when taken out of a simple plain bag! With a wide opening, it is easy to get makeup supplies in and out. Please enjoy making variations with wider gusset, height, and so on, to suit your taste.
KF: Thank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
