This case can easily hold a small throw or other blanket. With its handle, it is easy to take with you for an outing and convenient for camping and outdoor activities. The fabric used for this bag is from the “OMEKASHI” series. It is a design by Fuyuka Kobayashi, Grand Prix winner of the “6th Inspiration Kokka Printed Textile Awards” sponsored by Kokka. The 100% cotton oxford is easy to sew, a perfect material for sewing beginners.

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Stylish and impactful, it is indeed the Grand Prize winner! I am quite impressed with the design. This fabric would be perfect as a wall décor piece, or to make a large bag or cushion. I wanted something that would be suitable for the coming season and for at home and outside use, so I made a blanket case that can be used as a napping pillow or a lumber support cushion for driving.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
It is large enough to easily hold a frequently used small throw and blankets. The handle makes it convenient to carry during your outing. Another point to note is that the zipper is concealed so as not to touch your face when used as a pillow.

KF: What are some tips for making this case?
While the sharp circular curve is a little difficult to sew, if you do not force or pull the fabric, and sew carefully by frequently adjusting the machine’s presser, you will achieve a beautiful finish.

KF: How should we use this case in everyday situations?
A 100 x 150 cm size blanket, when folded in three and then rolled, should fit perfectly. This lovely case will definitely come in handy for napping at home as well as for camping, picnics, driving, and cherry blossom viewing.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
