We interviewed Mioko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
It is really cute with odd shaped dots in beautiful layer of colors! What makes it stylish is the gradation of tones where the colors overlap. Carrying a piece made with this fabric will lift up your spirits. It is sturdy and solid to create a steady shape. Taking advantage of this character, I incorporated the tuck and fold lines in the design.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
I conceived a piece that looks whimsical without a complex making process. The tightened top can be created by repeating the folding and stitching steps.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
When sewing together the top opening of the outer bag and lining bag, you may find it slightly difficult due to the position of the tucks. Try not to worry too much about the tuck. As you sew, focus on keeping the edge of the opening aligned where you apply stitches.

KF: How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
This small size bag is perfect for a quick errand. It will be nice to make a matching bag in a larger size!

KF:Thank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

1.

Prepare the materials.

2.

Make the handles.

3.

Mark the short end of the outer fabric. Fold the fabric using the marks to create tucks.

4.

Apply stitches over the tucks to hold them. Repeat the process on the lining fabric.

5.

Attach both handles on the outer fabrics.

6.

Attach the tape on the outer fabric.

7.

With the front sides facing each other, fold the outer fabric in half and sew both sides. Repeat the process on the lining fabric.

8.

Fold the seam at the top opening of the outer bag and lining bag. With the front sides facing outside, sew together the bags by applying stitches all the way around the top.

9.

The process is complete.
