Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Both fabrics are so lovely with striking and bright floral motifs. The color tones are absolutely beautiful. It creates a great look for clothing. Viyella’s warm and smooth texture is perfect for an autumn/winter wardrobe.
KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
It is a simple gathered skirt with a twist. Once the fabric is gathered, it is sewn together with the belt fabric. This allows for an even gathering and keeps a clean look around the waist. Attaching pockets is not as difficult as it seems as I came up with an easier process. Why not try it?
KF: What are some tips for making this skirt?
Use a stiletto to hold the gathering when sewing for a tidy finish. When piecing together the sides, please be careful not to sew over the pockets!
KF: How should we incorporate this skirt into one’s styling?
With a colorful printing, it is best to match it with something simple for a top. For this example, it is coordinated with a girly ribbed top piece. An oversized T-shirt will be lovely for a casual style. Using the sample photo as a reference, please adjust the skirt length to your taste.

Instructions
1.
Make a loop with the belt fabric. When sewing together, leave an opening for elastic. Press the seam open and apply stitches around the opening for elastic.
2.
Attach the pockets on the sides of the front and back skirts (keep it 1mm inward from the finished line).
3.
With the front sides facing each other, sew together the front and back skirts at the sides, leaving an opening for pocket opening.
4.
On the side seams of the skirt and pocket, apply zigzag stitches together. Press the seam open.
5.
Apply stitches on the front pocket opening.
6.
With the front sides facing each other, sew together the pocket pieces. Apply additional stitches along the dotted line.
7.
From the front side, apply fine stitches around the pocket opening.
8.
Sew the waist with rough stitches and gather the fabric.
9.
Sew together the skirt and belt fabric.
10.
Attach the ribbon, if you prefer.
