One Handle Round Bag

Size: 20cm (l) 15cm (bottom diameter)

What a lovely round bottom bag with a single handle! It comes in a reversible fabric from the Toy Fabrics series and is filled with designs of a flock of animals on one side and the trails of animal footsteps on the other. It is a perfect small bag for a quick outing for errands. The beautiful color tone fits nicely when used for storage as a room decor.

We interviewed Mioko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
First, the illustration of the animal design that encompasses both cuteness and stylishness is attractive.
The fabric is reversible with orange stripes on one side and solid orange background on the other, and it is easy to use and coordinate with other fabrics.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
Since the fabric is sturdy, the bag can hold vertically by itself without having the backing. You can use it as a bag, or it works nicely as an interior décor piece for storing small items.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
While some people may find a round shape challenging, it is sometimes easier to create the round shape than having a straight corner on a square. It may take a little effort, but basting the pieces first make the process easier.

KF:How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
I recommend adding hooks at the top or attach a drawstring closure at the opening. Since it’s a casual looking piece, why not coordinate it with a sporty style clothing.

KF: Thank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Cut the fabric.

Sew together the outer fabrics (top and bottom pieces). Press the seam open and iron to secure.

With the front sides facing each other, fold the outer fabric in half. Sew the vertical end. (Repeat the process for the lining fabric.)

With the front sides facing each other, sew together the outer fabric and bottom fabric (outer part). Mark four locations with even interval for easier alignment. Repeat the process for the lining fabric and bottom lining fabric.

Cut a slit on the seam.

Fold the top opening of the outer bag and lining bag for 1cm each.

Fold the handle fabric in four and sew both top and bottom long ends.

With the front sides facing outside, layer the outer bag and lining bag. Insert the handle in the center of the front and back and sew all the way around at the top opening.
