We interviewed Ayumi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF)What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
While it is a kitchen item, this cone shaped pot holder is so lovely and looks comforting.
For the fabric, I used pasta, a design that reminds you of stacked pasta plates.

KF:Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
This pot holder made with a solid texture half linen canvas can be used for everyday cooking.
Since it is not a fire-retardant fabric, please be careful when using it near the fire or with a high temperature oven.

KF:What are some tips for making this pot holder?
When turning the fabrics over, you may find it a little difficult with the batting in-between. Do it slowly and it should not be a problem.

KF:How should we use this pot holder in everyday situations?
Why not make several pieces in various patterns, as it will look cute stacked. You will find it convenient to have a pair for holding pots and tabletop earthen pots. Besides using it as a pot holder, it can be used as a cover like a hat on top of a small individual tea pot and served on the table.

We interviewed Ayumi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
This half linen canvas fabric named turtle is rather solid and does not require the interlining. The design best represents this feature, resulting in a soft and fluffy look. Since the tortoiseshell is the motif, the bag characterizes turtle’s relaxed and gentle feel.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The design smoothly transitions from the bag to the handle. The wider handle, when tied, shows the solid color on the back, creating both a color and design accent. While the instructions include attaching the magnet hook inside, if you are planning to use this as a bag in a bag, you can make it without the hook. This way, it allows you to use it as a reversible piece. When making a reversible bag, try to pay special attention to the solid color for the lining fabric.

KF:What are some tips for making this bag?
It only requires straight stitching, so it is rather easy to make.
Make sure to create a clean and sharp corner when you turn the handle inside out.

KF:How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
It can be used as a shoulder bag or a carrier bag, depending on how long you tie the handles. You can also use it like a furoshiki gift wrapper by tying the handles tightly at the base.

We interviewed Yuki about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The size of the motifs was larger than I thought. I decided to take advantage of this large size and cut the fabric so that I can use it in a grand manner.

KF:Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
Each element – front, back and sides – has its own look, and since I worked on this project feeling we are right in summer, I used navy to make a statement.

KF:What are some tips for making this bag?
The gusset of this bag is larger than it looks, making it perfect as a diaper bag, shopping bag and for summer outing. As large bags tend to get heavy with many items inside, I paid extra attention to the shoulder straps by utilizing the fabric’s width and making it longer.

KF:How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
echino is known for its dynamic and colorful designs. While it is a bit challenging as a clothing piece to coordinate with other pieces, the bag will make a perfect match for a chic fashion statement. The colors will even make style coordination fun. Try to find your favorite design and enjoy making this bag.

We interviewed Anriko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The lion prints on a sea of orange is so lively. It may not be suitable for clothing, yet I thought it would be nice to make something wearable. So I came up with an apron that can make your everyday chores fun.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The everyday apron cannot be just pretty. With all the daily work in mind, this design is user friendly. It incorporates the housewife’s daily reality like wanting to carry a smart phone in a back pocket. I also thought of a design that won’t mess up the clothing worn underneath the apron.

cs214_daliyapron_2

KF:What are some tips for making this apron?
It is not that difficult to make as it doesn’t have any challenging sewing process. You can customize the pockets to your liking and usability.

KF: How should we use this apron in everyday situations?
It is not tied in the back, so it can be worn loosely over your clothing without messing it up. The short length won’t bother your legs, even with wide-leg pants or skirt underneath. You can wear it over any type of outfit.
