We interviewed Masumi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I came up with an item that takes advantage of the denim design with many fake pockets.

KF:Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The loops for the belt are added to give it a real denim look. The belt loops also work for the shoulder straps.

KF:What are some tips for making this bag?
You may find sewing the inseam a little difficult. The bag itself is pretty simple for you to try.

KF:How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
This time I used a wide cord, but you can make the strap with the same fabric. That will also look nice.

KF:Thank you very much, Masumi! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

1.Prepare the materials.
Prepare the materials.

2.Make the belt loops.
Fold both long ends of the fabric toward the center. Then fold the fabric in half (with the outer sides facing outside) and sew the edge (all five pieces).
Place one piece at 12cm away from the center and baste the piece. Place another piece at 4cm from the center piece and baste it.

3. Make the bag.
Draw a line starting at 17cm from the top all the way to the bottom. Run stitches at 0.5cm from the line and cut and open the fabric.

With the front sides facing each other, place the belt at the top opening of the bag and run stitches at 0.7cm from the top.
Open it up and wrap around the bag and sew. Put the belt through on both sides of the loop to finish!
