We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
It is a smooth and elegant linen. The simple and stylish colors offer options for many uses. It’s a wonderful fabric to keep in stock. This time, I decided to make a flat A4 size bag as we have frequent exchange of documents during this new (fiscal) season (in Japan). Even after many washes and uses, it can still be a stylishly worn tote bag.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
A handle tape with a logo is a design accent. The bag has a convenient outer pocket for cards, smartphones, and pens. You use exactly 2 meters of tape, and the end of the tape is hidden behind the pocket. It looks cute and is durable.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
To cut along the grain of the fabric, it is recommended to pull out a piece of thread first. If you are able to cut it straight, it will be easier to sew and less likely to lose its shape.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
The look of the bag is simple, so it’s easy to match with any outfit. I think it will also be useful as a sub-bag.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Relaxed-Fit Pants for Grown Ups – Sewing Instructions

These comfortable, loose pants are perfect for relaxing at home. The fabric used is “Suteteko Kibun ♪”, a thin and soft 100% cotton Yoryu (Crepe de Chine) print. This fabric has unevenness called “shibo,” and the surface that comes into contact with the skin is small, so you can enjoy a silky feel. Since it is also highly absorbent and quick-drying, it will be very useful in the coming seasons. This is exactly the kind of material you want to use for making Suteteko, a Japanese version of relaxed-fit pants.
