This is a convenient and cute spare bag that you can fold up and accompany in your small purse when going out. The bag is made of a single piece of fabric without a lining, so it is nice and light. The featured fabric from the “NUNO TO MONO” series is made of 85% cotton and 15% hemp sheeting. The tag from the same series works well as a design accent.

Materials:
□ Fabric: 100cm x 50cm
□ Elastic: 20cm (0.1cm diameter)
□ Button: One piece (1.9cm diameter)
□ Tag – Large: One piece
□ Tag – Small: One piece

Size: 30cm (l) 28cm (w) 7cm (d)

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I thought, “It’s a simple plain sheeting, so it will come in handy in many situations!” This time, I made use of its lightness of the fabric to create a single layer foldable bag.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
Since it can be folded into a small size, it is convenient to use as a reusable-bag for shopping, but I thought I should make a spare yet proper accompanying piece, like a paper bag from a stylish store! By separating the gusset piece, it created a clean square design. It is easy to fold along the tag on the front, and you can still see the cute tag even when it is folded♪

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
Sewing the corners may be a little difficult, but if you cut a slit and align them carefully before sewing, then you will get a beautiful finish when you turn over the piece.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
I think you can use it casually like a stylish paper bag in situations where you feel a little embarrassed to carry a plastic bag but don’t need a large bag. You have more items than you can fit in a small bag, you have documents that can’t be folded, you are bringing a gift – this bag is perfect for these types of occasions.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Ribbon Tote Bag -Sewing Instructions

*All Rights Reserved. Please refrain from the unauthorized use of project photos.

This is a large tote bag accented with a big ribbon. The use of #9.5 canvas for the bottom, lining and handles makes this bag stable and helps keep its shape. For the main portion of the bag, “breeze” from the new echino pattern, “patterns” is used. The ribbon also uses echino’s fabric from its solid line.

Fabric shown for this sample: (Outer Fabric–Top) EKX-97200-201C
(Outer Fabric–Bottom, Handle, Lining Fabric (#9.5 Canvas)) YK-530-1I
(Ribbon Fabric) echino solid JG-95410-10C

Materials:
□ Fabric (Outer Fabric-Top): 80cm × 20cm
(Outer Fabric–Bottom, Handle, Lining Fabric (#9.5 Canvas)): 100cm x 60cm
(Ribbon Fabric): 50cm x 50cm

Size: 22cm (l) 38cm (w-opening side) 24cm (bottom) 14cm (d)

We interviewed Mioko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
The contrast between the base color of navy and the green of the patterned portion is beautiful and creates a cool impression. With the large pattern and solid texture of the fabric, I thought it would be perfect for a bag.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
This bag has a wide, stable gusset that can hold a lot of items. The opening is closed with a ribbon sewn to the main portion of the bag. As the ribbon is attached loosely, it can create a stylish look just by tying it lightly. With the tension of echino’s fabric and the use of #9.5 canvas for the bottom, lining and handle, the bag is fairly solid and will not easily lose its shape.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
It is basically a simple tote bag with a ribbon embellishment. I think it’s easier to make than it looks.
If you use thicker width store-bought ribbons, you can enjoy a different look.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
The echino pattern is colorful, so it would look good with a simple wardrobe. I think it will work great with dark colored clothing in black or navy. The handle is long so that you can carry it over your shoulder. If you want to carry it in a compact yet cute way, you can shorten the handle.

KF: Thank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
