Kid’s Backpack – Sewing Instructions

This is a backpack in a cheerful color that is perfect for the coming season. The pockets on the outside are just right for storing handkerchiefs, tissues, and masks. The fabric used is from the “FANTASTIC WORLD” series. The main fabric for the backpack has a small pattern that looks like a butterfly or a ribbon. It has no top and bottom, so you can use it without worrying about the design placement. The zipper also comes from the “FANTASTIC WORLD” series. Using two colors, yellow and gray, it goes perfectly with the color tones of the fabric.

Fabric shown for this sample:echino EKX-97100-102C

Materials:
□ Fabric (Panel Outer Fabric): 102cm x 37cm
(Panel Side Lining Fabric, Bottom Fabric): 110cm wide x 50cm
(Tab Fabric): 20cm × 10cm
□ Bag Tape: 143cm (3cm wide)
□ D Ring: Two pieces (2cm inner diameter)
□ Swivel Lobster Clasp: Two pieces (3cm inner diameter)

Size: 35cm (l) 40cm (w) 10cm (d)

We interviewed Mioko about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
What an impactful pattern with big motifs! The combination of crisp borders and large flowers will give you many ways to enjoy it by changing the parts and angles you use. For this project, on the contrary, I used the fabric in a straightforward way to make the most of this great design.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The width is just right to show the flowers and border in a balanced way. I wanted to take advantage of the crispness of the pattern, so the top stitches are applied in the corners as an accent to give it a solid paper bag look. Since it is a large bag, a detachable shoulder strap is incorporated to make it easy to carry even when it gets heavy.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
I wanted it to be sturdy and self-standing, so I used the #9.5 canvas for the bottom and inside. Sewing the corners of the bottom may seem difficult, but with a little extra effort, such as marking the correct position or making a notch, you can do it surprisingly smoothly.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
Since it is a bag with a big impact, simple outfit is recommended. It looks stylish when carried with a plain long coat. It would also be great to make a small bag with the same fabric and carry it as a set.

KF: Thank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

A Lovely Panda Design Mask Case – Sewing Instructions

As daily mask wearing still continues, a case for a temporarily removed mask became a must-have item. This mask case is constructed simply by sewing two pieces of fabric together and adding a snap button. From the “Chibipuri” series, a panda patterned 100% cotton sheeting is featured. The Kung-fu style panda motif is so lovely. The randomly placed design makes this fabric perfect for small goods making. A matching handmade mask will make a nice accompaniment.

Fabric shown for this sample:LGA-39090-1A

Materials:
□ Fabric: 110cm wide x 40cm
□ Paracord: 50cm (0.4cm diameter)
□ Cord Stopper: One piece (with two holes)
□ Tag of your choice

Size: 30cm (l) 26cm (w) 12cm (d)

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I thought that the denim pattern with a gentle feel would make a nice reusable bag that can be casually used by men and women as well as by children and adults. By matching the black tag and the paracord that has an outdoorsy touch, it creates an item fit for men.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
It is a simple shopping bag that men feel comfortable carrying, and is easy to fold when not in use. I focused on making it simple to sew, so I think that even handicraft beginners can make it nicely.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
When wrapping the bottom with a separate piece of fabric, I think it will have a high-quality look when it is finished with a concealed seam (applying stitches along the edge where two fabrics meet)

KF: How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
It’s simple and convenient, so it will make a perfect gift!

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Notebook Cover in a Patchwork Style Print Fabric – Sewing Instructions

Fabric shown for this sample:(Outer Fabric A, Lining Fabric) LOA-59020-2D
(Outer Fabric B, Button Fabric)LOA-59020-1A

Materials:
(Outer Fabric B, Button Fabric): 30cm x 20cm
(Outer Fabric C, Facing, Pen Holder): 35cm × 35cm
□ Rick Rack Tape: 80cm (0.3cm wide)
□ Fusible Quilt Batting (light weight): 27cm x 19cm
□ Fusible Interfacing (light weight): 12cm x 2.5cm
□ Core for Fabric Wrapped Button: Two pieces (2.4cm diameter)
□ #25 Embroidery Thread

Size:19cm (l) 13.5cm (w-when closed)

We interviewed Ayumi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I love all of the Very Cotton series as they are colorful and cute. With strawberries everywhere, it became even cuter. The scalloped border has a pattern that looks like it has already been patchworked, creating plenty of presence without any additional effort. Each small cake pattern is very lovely, and I immediately came up with the idea of making a fabric covered button.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
With pen holders on both sides, the pages do not open when the pen is inserted. It prevents the cover from opening in your bag. I also added a charming fabric covered button at the end of the bookmark as an accent.

KF: What are some tips for making this cover?
The quilt batting should be as thin as possible. Cut the seam allowance to 5mm before turning the cover over for a clean finish.

KF:How should we use this cover in everyday situations?
This design suits a thin notebook that you can find at a dollar store. The handmade cover can turn the generic notebook into your own. May your favorite notebook be filled with exciting plans…

KF:Thank you very much, Ayumi! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
