We interviewed Naomi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
While it features a simple plaid pattern, a painting-like look gives a modern and stylish feel. With a soft and see-through texture, I thought it would be perfect as a cache coueur (wraparound) dress, which can also be worn as a light gown.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
The gathering starts at the transition, where it is placed high. This allows the dress to have a fluffy silhouette. The longer length creates a little mature look. There are three ways to enjoy this dress – with an open front, tied with a ribbon or closed completely.

KF: What are some tips for making this dress?
When sewing the gathering, use a stiletto to align the gathering for a clean finish. When attaching the bias binding tape on the neckline, be careful not to stretch it too much.

KF: How should we incorporate this dress into one’s styling?
I recommend a simple style, wearing it over a plain T-shrt and a pair of jeans like a gown. When enjoying it as a dress, it will look nice with a pair of leggings.

KF: Thank you very much, Naomi! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Leather Handle Drawstring Bag

Size: 21cm (l) 22cm (w) 6cm (gusset)

This drawstring bag comes in a double gauze yarn dyed fabric in the Sashiko needlework style. The grommet, rope and leather tape handle add a sharp accent to this muted Sashiko design. It goes well not only with a Japanese kimono wardrobe but also with casual denim pants or a natural style dress.

We interviewed Mioko about her creation:

Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Because of its Sashiko style design, this fabric has a Japanese feel with a natural and stylish impression. Taking advantage of the chic color tone, I created a small size bag that can be coordinated with both Japanese and Western styling.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
This double gauze fabric is soft, yet its thickness gives a solid texture. The addition of a canvas fabric creates a drawstring bag that has both softness and sturdiness. With a leather handle, grommet and rope, it works well with a western style outfit.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
Since it is soft and fluffy with thickness, you should apply stitches slowly and carefully to help keep the fabrics neat and aligned. The leather handle is attached by hand and the stitch lines become visible both inside and outside, so please pay attention where you insert the needles.

KF: How should we incorporate this bag into one’s styling?
This design allows you to coordinate it with a Japanese kimono, casual denim style or soft look dresses. Why not make a handkerchief or pouch in the matching fabric to carry them inside? It will look lovely!

KF:hank you very much, Mioko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!

Big Tote with Cotton Cord Handles

Size: about 33.5cm (l) 48cm (w)

This large size tote is perfect for an activity-oriented outing. The fabric from the KESHIKI’s asa no yama (morning mountain) series is filled with illustrations and the KESHIKI was created with the concept “A fabric that decorates everyday living like a landscape painting.” What is nice about this fabric is that with large patterns, you can enjoy a different look of the design depending on how you cut it.

We interviewed Yui about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
Taking advantage of the striking large pattern, I came up with a large size bag with a simple shape.

KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
In keeping with the KESHIKI’s natural image, a cotton cord is used for the handle. I really like the soft feel, making it a perfect fit for a spring outing.

KF: What are some tips for making this bag?
While it is easy to make this bag with simple straight stitches, the area for the cord becomes thick with multiple layers, creating different thicknesses. When sewing, please do it carefully and slowly, especially the corners.

KF: How should we use this bag in everyday situations?
It has ample room to carry a change of clothes or towel. I am sure it will become useful for the upcoming season. It will look so nice with a natural style of clothing.

KF: Thank you very much, Yui! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
